B.O.L.D (Building Opportunities for Leadership Development) Chicago Institute customizes its work to serve young people in a variety of social settings. During the past ten years, we have offered the following leadership initiatives:
In the short term, B.O.L.D Chicago is prepared to continue implementation of its highly successful CIMBY (Calumet Is My BackYard) environmental leadership program. During the summer of 2010, BOLD Chicago will offer internships to twelve highly motivated students at environmental organizations around the city including Alliance of Great Lakes, Friends of the Parks, Sierra Club, Little Village Environmental Justice Organization, Camp Saganau in West Lemont, and the Field Museum of Illinois.
B.O.L.D Chicago seeks then to re-introduce its Summer in the City Youth Leadership Institute. This seven-week intensive leadership development institute teaches critical leadership and community organizing skills while placing students in internships with progressive community organizations throughout the city.
Beginning with the 2009-10 academic year, B.O.L.D Chicago will begin to offer student leadership training in schools throughout the city. Currently, organizations like Mikva Challenge and the Harris Fellows Student Leadership Initiative offer intensive leadership training to Student Leadership Campus Councils. These councils work with principals and the student body to undertake substantial school improvement initiatives. B.O.L.D Chicago can and should take its place alongside these organizations to serve the more than 100,000 high school students throughout the city.
